The short version
Trimzio is local-first by default. Core editing, preview, smart tools and export run on your device. Local-only mode is on by default and blocks optional cloud AI chat and transcription until you choose otherwise.
Core editing stays on your device
When you open media for ordinary editing, your browser reads it directly from disk. Timeline edits, previews, offline smart tools and exports run locally. Trimzio does not upload the source video for those core functions, and the video picture is not sent to the AI service for ordinary AI-assisted editing.
What is stored in your browser
- Editor preferences such as theme, accent color, local-only mode and export settings.
- Redundant recovery snapshots in localStorage and IndexedDB so larger projects have a second browser-recovery path.
- If you enable folder autosave, your browser remembers the folder you picked. It can also remember up to five recent project file handles. The project files themselves live on your disk.
- AI conversation history, saved workflows, and automation activity are stored in your browser. Activity includes command labels and arguments plus before-and-after project counts, not your source media. Workflow packs are written to disk only when you export them.
- Review notes, optional reviewer names, timestamps, resolution status, and approval checklist progress are stored in your browser. Review packs are written to disk only when you export them and contain project metadata and feedback, never footage.
All of this stays on your device. You can clear it at any time from the editor settings or by clearing your browser data.
Shared review workspaces
If you sign in and explicitly create or join a shared review workspace, Trimzio stores the workspace project name and timing metadata, notes, optional reviewer names, resolution state, checklist progress, revision state, account membership, and update times on this site. Invite codes are stored as one-way hashes. Workspace members can see one another’s display names and shared feedback. Source footage, project bundles, browser-recovery snapshots, and local file handles are never uploaded to a workspace.
Optional AI assistant
When local-only mode is off and a signed-in user sends a request to hosted AI, Trimzio sends the prompt, recent conversation, available commands and structured project context to our server and configured provider. Context can include media names, clip timing, captions, overlays, effects and other edit settings. Proposed commands run in your browser and remain undoable.
Speech-to-text and automatic captions
Transcription is unavailable in local-only mode. When enabled, Trimzio names the speech provider and asks for consent before sending the needed audio; the video picture is not included. Trimzio does not intentionally keep uploaded audio after the request, although the provider processes it under its own terms.
Accounts and usage records
Core editing does not require an account. If you create one for shared workspaces or hosted AI, we store the name, town or city, phone number, email address and securely hashed password you provide, along with profile changes, authentication cookies, workspace ownership and membership. We also keep limited usage records such as AI request counts, token totals and transcription duration so we can enforce allowances, prevent abuse and operate the service.
Website, analytics and contact data
Our hosting keeps ordinary security logs. When enabled, self-hosted analytics counts page views, referrers and broad device type using a daily one-way visitor hash; analytics is not sent to an external analytics service. The cookie notice stores your consent choice. Privacy-safe diagnostic reports are generated on your device and shared only if you choose to send them. Contact forms send the details you submit so we can reply.
What we do not do
- We do not require an account for core editing or offline smart tools.
- We do not sell or share personal data with advertisers.
- We do not upload or inspect your source video during ordinary editing and export.
