Is my video uploaded to your servers?
Not for core editing. Your browser reads the source file from disk and performs preview and export on your device. Local-only mode is on by default and blocks cloud requests. If you turn it off, optional AI chat sends prompts and structured project context online; transcription separately asks before sending audio—not the video picture—to the configured speech provider.
Is Trimzio really free? Is there a watermark?
Yes. Core editing, local review handoff, bounded shared review workspaces, offline smart tools, and unlimited local exports are free and carry no watermark. Optional hosted AI may have a daily allowance, and a Pro tier for heavier AI use and larger teams is planned.
Do I need an account?
Not for core editing, local review packs, or the free offline smart tools. An account is required for shared review workspaces, hosted AI editing, and transcription so access, consent, and usage can be managed securely.
What can the smart tools and AI assistant do?
The free offline tools can remove silences, find shot changes, shorten an edit, mark beats, balance levels, and run adaptive recipes. You can preview the impact, save or move reusable workflow packs, and review automation activity stored on this device. Signed-in users can also describe edits in plain language, transcribe speech, generate captions, find spoken phrases, and remove filler words with optional online AI. Local-only mode blocks both AI chat and transcription by default.
Which browsers work best?
Chrome and Edge give the best experience, including fast WebCodecs export and saving projects automatically to a folder. Firefox and Safari work too; there you use the regular Save project button instead of folder autosave.
What video formats can I open and export?
You can open the formats your browser can play, which covers MP4, WebM and MOV in most cases. Exports are MP4 (H.264), which plays everywhere, or WebM (VP9).
Is there a file size or length limit?
Main footage has no artificial Trimzio limit; available memory, storage, browser support, and export time are the practical constraints. Picture-in-picture imports are currently limited to 60 MB.
What happens if I close the tab in the middle of an edit?
Trimzio keeps redundant browser-recovery snapshots and offers to resume where you left off. You can also enable on-disk project autosave. Important projects should still be saved and backed up normally.
Does it work offline?
After one successful load, the installable app shell supports offline core editing, export and smart tools. Hosted AI, accounts, transcription and updates require internet access.
Can I add music or record a voiceover?
Yes. Add MP3, WAV and other audio files on their own timeline lanes, or record narration from your microphone while the video plays.
Can I import subtitles?
Yes, .srt and .vtt files import straight onto the timeline, where you can restyle and retime them before they are baked into the export.
How do review notes and shared workspaces work?
Open Review to add timestamped change, question, or approval notes and complete a final checklist. Notes stay in your browser unless you export a JSON review pack or explicitly create or join an account-based shared workspace. Shared workspaces sync project metadata, feedback, membership, and checklist status with invited members, but never footage or project bundles.
